Insulation to Magnetic / Bulletin / Mail Holding Board

I wanted a mail holder near my patio door - mail was always collecting on the counter.
I wanted a magnetic board near my patio door, I dislike having things stuck to my fridge. I wanted a cork board near my patio door so I could have lists I make handy on my way out.

I decided to make them all one.

I have a lot of pieces of left over insulation from building the house/garage/sheds, and decided to put it to good use.
I had an old dented magnetic board that had been moved one time too many.
So I removed the cardboard backing from the magnetic board - IF you ever do this project save the cardboard!
Then I scored the magnetic board and folded it back and forth until it snapped - tada.. 2 pieces.
Wear gloves.... when "tada"ing...

Put the magnetic board piece where you want the magnetic part of the board to be and trace it with an blade.
Cut a wedge to allow the side of the magnetic board to push in and recess, so the surface is flat to the insulation piece.  Glue it into place.
Now get your material and upholster your insulation
I used pins to hold it all in place and then
Used my handy dandy glue gun. to secure it to the insulation
If you look close, you can see the sight bulge where the magnetic board is.
Then cajole your cat off of the rest of your material that he has pulled onto the floor and under the table.
On the saved cardboard  trace a mail holder shape - complete with fold backs,
cut it out and I glues a tongue depressor across the top to make it stiffer.
Upholster this too.
Use pins to pin it into place. I painted the tops brown and then glued it into place. The pins were short enough NOT to poke through and  will stay in to secure it to the insulation as opposed to just the material so it does not sag.
I hung it up - you can see the magnets.. sorry for the blurry photo
And the mail is in, the magnets are on and the calendar is up.
I like it and am so glad the stuff is off my counter and won't go back! ( I hope)
