Make This Handy DIY Wood Crate Snack Box With Scrap Wood!

I decided to make this snack box out of reclaimed wood.

After deciding how large to make the DIY crate, boards were cut to length for 2 sides, front and back, 2 for the bottom and 2 for the lid.

The sides with front and back were assembled first, using screws.

Then the bottom was attached with screws.

A lid was created by bracing two boards together with two thin planks.

But I wanted the crate to be nut-themed since that's what this little wood crate would hold! So I stenciled up the lid using a stencil to create the image desired.

This Chestnuts stencil (from HERE) was used for the design.

The Chestnuts image was stenciled in various paint colors using a small stencil brush.

How to stencil:

1. position stencil with masking tape
2. load paint on stencil brush
3. remove most paint from brush with a rag until it feels dry
4. tap or swirl paint through stencil for desired effect

Isn't it the cutest?! Love the rustic vibe!

Containers were next!

I had these cute galvanized planters that came with twine glued to the rims. Some of the thin twine was coming loose, so I replaced it by hot gluing on a heavier rope, as I really loved this rustic detail!

Various nuts (and somehow pretzels... imagine!) filled the containers, with one cup empty for the nutcracker and empty shells.

Two door pull handles were attached to the sides with screws so it's easy to carry.

And here's the beautiful and unique end result!

This Chestnuts-themed snack box is sure handy to use! And equally pretty to look at!

So fabulous, I painted a beat up old bench to become the perfect companion! The crate brings the table up to the perfect coffee table height!

Here's another way the crate can be used as well! Remove the lid, and it becomes a large coaster to protect a coffee table!

I just LOVE this little snack box which is so handy to use at home, and would equally make such a great gift idea, don't you think?
