Take inventory and keep what you think you may use in the future, if you keep to much you can always pare down again. Many consignment shops love silver and china or resell it yourself online or if you have a neighborhood email system place an add. You could also make little " gifts" out of a few pieces to special people you know who would appreciate it.
Donate or sell it
Have a yard sale people just starting out might want silverware to use.
I have very large collections of both silver and china. I am going to try having item specific sales (i.e. linens/textiles/rugs or china or paper goods) we have lived in the same house 47 years and I once had an antique shop. I find you can keep a lot if it is organized. Our town has a sales site on Facebook.
Hi Betty - This is a cute article that walks you through the process of how to decide what to keep, sell, etc. Hope it helps. Good luck! Hugs, Holly

You may want to keep them to hand down to the family, or start doing it now with the items you think you don't need. When my mom moved out of her huge house, she invited the female relatives to take what they wanted. I wish she had offered me some of it before she gave most of it away, as their were some pieces I would have loved to have, but she didn't think they were things I would want, so she gave them away.
