Oh wow! That’s a LOT of collectibles. Maybe determine the most important ones and get a bunch of those memorabilia boxes to hang on the walls? That way you won’t have to dust them all too! Shadow boxes, that’s what they’re called.

A shelving unit and plastic bins would help. Put like items into the same bin, label and slide onto shelf. Get a tall shelving unit. Each shelf should hold at least 3 bins. The shelving unit alone could hold at least 15 bins full of items and more if you add additional shelves. That would get the stuff up out of your space. You could get wire racks that slide over the shelves also. We have some in hubby's bathroom. They slide onto the over the toilet shelving unit in there to provide extra storage and are very useful in organizing and getting stuff off the countertops. We found all of the above mentioned stuff at Walmart. Cruise their storage and shelving isles because they are full of ideas.

is he a crafty person or just a collectible person? If he is a crafty person have him get some wood and make some small shadow boxes. these are small boxes that you put your collectibles in. Either that or have him buy some 6-foot wood shelves to mount on the wall. when these are mounted to the wall they make good storage areas for collectibles.

Hope this helps and good luck with all the collections

From the photo the collection seems to be well organized. Sometimes organization is not the issue. It appears that an alternate space to display the collection would be the best solution.

Make him decide which ones are the most important to keep out. Find spaces on the walls or bookcases where he can display and change them out for different ones occasionally. There is no reason they all have to be displayed all in one place or all at the same time. You need to put your foot down and tell him he needs to store most of them, or find somewhere else to display them so that you have the kitchen back to use as it is supposed to be used.

I am sure you had to make concessions when you moved in to his place, now it is his turn to make concessions.

Maybe you could get a some Rubbermaid bins to store them and just keep a few out for display and then he could change them around

that actually sounds like a great idea because I did just clean out two of his closets

I, so agree with Nancy on this. He should not be storing his toys in the kitchen any more than you should be storing your dolls there.

The temperature changes are not good for such colectabes, plates yes dolls, figuerines...no.there are acid free storage boxes to store you collectibles in. Rotate them with the seasons.

You could put a shelf up very high (almost to the ceiling but far down enough to hold the figures) all the way around the room, then get shelving units and get or make display cases (just clear boxes they sit in) and stack as many as you or he wants displayed on the shelving unit get storage containers and maybe put some away if he has duplicates.

A storage unit or little building in your yard may be the next step to solely house all his collection lol

I would take the closet doors off a closet, find new storage places for all that was in the closet, have a handyman type person install custom shelving taking into consideration the collection and the best way to display it, you could even design a layout on paper first, have the handyman install lighting to show off the collection, make sure the " new display case" is painted a coordinating color to enhance his collection. Make it a unique focal point in the decor. Remind him " a happy wife is a happy life". Would love to see the solution you settle on.

What about a shelf that runs around the room/house. Wouldnt have to be fancy, just some brackets with a 1x4 on them.

They really need to be packaged up, all the dust, grease and anything else that floats in the air is going to land on these and soon they will no longer be collectible because they will be too dirty

I would take out a temperature controlled storage unit. If he can't organize it, there are companies that can do that for you.

  • How about shelves that run along the wall high up near the ceiling? You may be able to get two rows.
