check in with Lowes for the metal racking systems. we have them and they work well.
You can put a book shelf in your closet or bakers rack..& that will add storage..even chest with drawers will work..l have used all...lol
You could put in the system for sliding racks on the shelves to get to the back items more easily. Put only the things that you use very seldom for the back of the shelves. I have a closet in the dining room that is over the basement stairs, so the bottom section is higher than the floor level. Whoever put the closet in, put in vertical slats between the bottom shelf and the next shelf, taking up about half of the shelf. It is used for trays, platters, extra cutting boards, anything that is flat and can be stored in the states. Each one is about three to four inches wide, so that you can put in more than one, or something a little wider. I hope this helps you!
For the shelves that go so far back, use containers that reach the back, fill them, then they can be pulled out so you can get the items that are normally out of your reach. Works for me in my garage.
Just remember to use all space, vertical, horizontal, door backs etc.
