A photo of a little fishing village on a bay in Scotland was the inspiration for a living room redo for one of my sisters. Struggling to make something special to contribute I saw a sweet little key rack posted by Claire at pillarboxblue. Viola! Made from little scrap pieces of blocks squirrelled away from various construction blocks, acrylic paint, cup hooks and glue. It was a fun afternoon project.
I searched through the scrap bag for pieces of wood suitable for a little row of houses facing a harbor.
Mix acrylic craft paint with water to make a darkish color and paint on with a craft brush to stain the wood. I put mine out in the sun to dry them quickly.
I painted a base color coat on each of the blocks.
A permanent black marker was used to draw the features of the houses as well as a little church.
A permanent black marker was used to draw the features of the houses as well as a little church. Features can be as detailed or as simplistic as you like.
Then I just highlighted the windows and doors with tje craft paint, painted the grass and the dock and drew in a few details on the dock.
I screwed in four cup holders to hang the keys. Lastly, I added a little figurine of a guy on a chair playing a banjo "sittin' on the dock of the bay". I'll glue it together with hot glue and add some wall hangers to the back.
Enjoyed the project?
