The Great Denim Cover-Up (a Cardboard Box)

There is only one thing I love more than denim and that is .....wait for it....FREE DENIM!! I use it all over the house, for my craft boxes and now for my under-the-bed storage. I found some boxes that fit perfectly under my bed. I have my bed on risers and since I have moved into a 1 bedroom apartment, I utilize every space that I can.
These boxes had the 'handles' pushed in. To stabilize them, I taped them inside and out with duct tape.
The 'handles' of the box had been punched in, so I duct taped them on both sides to stabilize the ends of the carton. I then took measurements of my box. Length is 15 inches, width is 10 inches and height was 8 inches. I measure accordingly L- 15 x 2 , W- 10 x 2 = a total of 50 inches plus another 2 inches for leeway.
I cut a strip 52" long and 10" wide (the 8 inches + 2 for leeway)
This is a down and dirty covering for utility purposes, so I am not using mod podge (expensive) and only covering the parts that can be seen. I stapled the denim along the top edge
Smoothe the denim downwards and wrap the extra fabric over the bottom, always smoothing as you go
Got out my craft glue and clothespins
Glue the denim on the edge that is overlapping the bottom of the box.
Press it and smoothe as you go
Because this is going to be slid in and out over carpet, I duct-taped any open edges to keep them from catching.
Fold the ends over and tuck them in like you would wrap a present. Glue all edges down then duct tape over them
A nice neat mitred corner
Duct tape over any open edges
Even though the edges are stapled, I like to cover the raw edges. **Note: If I was making a fancy storage box, the material would cover the whole box. I would probably use spray adhesive and then sew an inside lining or glue lace on the inside where the duct tape is**
I chose a lace to make it look a little more feminine. I know it will bring a smile to my face when I lift up my dust ruffle and see my nice little storage box. Again, I used my trusty craft glue. Because this lace was stretchy, I used clothespins as I glued and stretched.
Waiting for the glue to set....It doesn't take very long.
The front of the box looked a bit bland, so I folded a small paper doily in half to label the contents.
I decided to work on my closet storage before working on my underbed storage. I like the uniform look of this. The stuff inside the boxes can be in total chaos, but all your friends will think you are an organizing guru! My neighbour saw this and asked me to help organize her home!
