Having an outdoor living space can be an absolute joy during the warmer months. Creating a cozy an inviting space doesn't have to be challenging or expensive. Plants are a great way to liven up patios and decks . Check out the five DIY projects I did with inexpensive and readily available items to bring plants to my patio.

I was given these old, dare I say ugly, plastic flower pots. I found this to be a great opportunity to experiment with some ideas for up-cycling these babies that everyone seems to have laying around.

Turning any old plastic flower pot into a hanging planter is easy with macrame. Using some outdoor friendly rope, I made my own hanging planters in less than 10 minutes.

Get even more of that cozy cottage/farmhouse look by transforming thrift store baskets into planters. This tiered basket only cost me $3.99, and is now a unique herb garden.

Of course we cannot forget about the power of paint. A faux cement painting effect can transform plastic flower pots, and give them a more expensive look. This paint technique looks good on the pots and my thumb.
