How to Add Height to Urn Planterns

You know that feeling when you think of an idea that is amazing and might solve porch world problems? Well, I think I nailed it when I figured out how to add height to my urn planters. It may not be a world problem, but it might be on the minds of homeowners looking to beef up their Italian urn planters.

I was this close to upgrading to larger urn planters. With four weeks at home I had endless minutes to think about my planters. They were not measuring up to the over-sized front door and the steps leading to the front porch. The front door towers over everything on our petite patio.

It turns out the solution to my petite planters was just outside my front door and was right in front of me for a few years. Yep, my concrete square pavers I purchased at Lowe’s to add a pathway on the hill.

HOW TO ADD HEIGHT TO URN PLANTERS

The paver size was and magically the identical size of the urn’s base. It’s like a DIY miracle. Each paver measured 11 1/2″ x 11 1/2″. It was a match made on the front porch.

Supplies Needed

Supplies:

  • cement pavers
  • paint to match the urn planters
  • water-based sealer

That’s it!

I sprayed a total of four pavers and sealed each side with a water-based sealer.

I started with one paver under each urn planter added a second paver to each urn and loved the additional height. Two pavers, measuring 11 1/2″ x 11 1/2″ added 3.5″ additional height to each planter.

That’s all it took to add a little more awesome to my planters.

And, if you were not looking for the pavers, you may not notice. The pavers blended into the urn’s base seamlessly.

I am so happy with the results and more importantly, I didn’t toss my garage sale urns out for a new (taller) replacement.

I may have to do this with a plaster capital I have inside as an end table with marble tile top. I would have to add felt to protect the floor and use white paint. would be easier than building with wood.
