How We Hung Our Outdoor Lights

I love our outdoor lights, they really are the icing on the cake. There are so many ways to hang outdoor light and make them look cute, cozy, and warm - but none of the ways I's found would accommodate our back yard.
I wanted to have several rows of lights hanging above the main part of our patio so I had to figure out how to make this work.

We have a big tree on the opposite side of our yard...so I got to thinkin'!
We took a wire (a 50-ft 16-gauge landscape lighting cable, which you can find at a hardware store such as Lowe’s) and some screw eyes (these are the screws with the circle on the end) and started stringing the wire back and forth between our house and a trees across the yard.
Across the yard is a big tree that we screwed a large eye hook into (my husband pre-drilled a hole in the tree and stood on a ladder so it’d be really high, plus my husband is tall…so it’s up pretty high!).
Once the wire was strung (and pulled taunt) we attached the lights to it with small black zip ties.

The wire helped makes the lights sturdier.
I didn’t want to string the lights all the way to the tree (it’s pretty far and I wanted to focus the light over the patio) so having the wire also made it possible to stop and start the lighting where we wanted.
I hope this helps you come up with a great plan on how to hang your lights!

P.S. I'd love to see pictures of what you did!
