How can I hang outdoor drapes from a pergola?

Can you use tension rods?
Try tension rods.
just be sure it's clean and termite free -- and if you like the way it looks, no you don't need to do anything to it ... you will loose the 'aged' look if you paint it unless you paint and then 'distress' -- and it's already 'distressed'!
