How can I fix messy etching on stepping stones?

Sandra
by Sandra

I did a stepping stone project for a special person for a special event, and my concrete must not have been mixed equally or something. Upon it drying, some of the letters I had put in did not form well. Is there a way to redo a part of the stone to fix the problems?

If you need to grind away concrete, then you could use a diamond blade on a 4” angle grinder.

If it’s small scale, then a diamond blade on a Dremel tool.

One-use diamond blades are cheaper at Harbor Freight. If you want it to use later in another project, spend the money on better blades.

Wear PPE. Practice on something else first.

If you want to add concrete, there are many concrete-in-a-tube caulk-gun style concrete products. HD carries about 15 different kinds. You’ll have to read labels for 15 minutes, lol, because some are sanded, some are acrylic additives, some are fast cure, etc. You may have to buy your Top 2 choices and practice with them on something else to see how they’re to work with and what they look like when dry.

Hi Sandra. How deep are the letters? Are they on top of the surface? You might be able to sand the concrete to see more of the decoration. Most DIY'ers use a ration of equal parts of concrete and sand. There's a lovely lady who works with concrete. Makes nice decorations. Her name is Helen Wyatt. Check her out on You Tube. Good luck.

I had to fix my concrete floor in my garage which had some heavy duty paint that spilled and we used a hand sander and it took the paint off and it was nice and smooth.
