    Hi Jodi,

    Here you go:

How to Measure Outdoor Replacement Patio Furniture Cushions

When measuring outdoor cushions for club chairs, dining chairs or ottomans, always stand facing the furniture. Your first measurement will be the width of the cushion. Start at the front left corner closest to you and measure from left to right, corner to corner. For the length of the cushion, measure from the front of the cushion to the back. And lastly, for the height of the cushion, or thickness, measure from the bottom of the cushion to the top.

For chaise lounges, the length of the cushion is the entire distance from the head of the cushion to the foot. Most of the time this measurement is over six feet. To measure the width, stand at the end of the chaise and measure the distance from the left corner to the right corner. And height is always referred to as the thickness. If the chaise has a hinge or a place where the cushion has a seam where it folds, that measurement you take from the very top of the cushion (where your head would be) and measure down to the seam where it folds. For an illustration of this, refer to the images on this page.

If you currently have cushions, you can measure them for a replacement. When you make your notes be sure to put the height, width, and depth. If you don't have cushions in place, you will need to determine the height. The post above is great for guiding you through the process.

Hello. This link might be helpful. I know we’ve tried to purchase some replacement cushions at Costco by eyeballing it and it didn’t work out well. Measurements should be helpful.

Hi Jodi, hope this helps you out,

Measure at the front edge of the seat frame, between the arms, and at the rear (where it meets the back). Use the widest of these three measurements as the width. Depth : Measure from the front edge of the seat to the rear, where it meets the chair back. Make sure to take this measurement in the center of the seat.

Width and depth of the seat. Do the same with the back.

Most fabric stores that carry upholstery fabrics (Joanne is one) have guidelines for estimating yardage needed for upholstery on dozens of chair & sofa types. They carry “Sunbrella” which is a well known, heavy duty, indoor-outdoor fabric as well.

  • You'll want to measure the width and depth of the seat. When measuring for the back, be sure to take into account the thickness of the seat cushion.

Hi! I measure the seat itself, across the front, the back, and from front to back. Depending on the height of the arms on the chairs and how high the back is, is how thick you will want the cushion. Cutting out paper to make an exact pattern for the shape and size will make your life simpler! Good luck!

  • I would take a tape measure and measure the length, depth and thickness. Amazon sells cushions and I even saw some at Hobby Lobby recently.

Measure your seat. Just find cushions as close to the width of the furniture you can.
