How do I make an exterior-grade faux palm tree?

I found out Xmas Palm Tree clearance stops at 50% where I saw a single (not clump of three) Xmas Palm Trees for $129. I can make a trunk and base out of 2x2 and CDX plywood- but where do I source the Long loose wired fronds? For bark, I’ve considered wrapping it with frayed twine and wood glue or spaghnum moss. I’ll run the extension cord along the 2x2 or up the middle if I use PVC pipe. Thanks in advance.

You might be able to use narrow garland cut to the lengths you need to create the fronds... Additional floral wire can be used in the garland, if needed. Hope this helps!

You could buy fake palm fronts from the floral area of the craft store and then wire them together youself

  It depends on the fabric. For example, many are thicker, spun fabrics and they do moderately well. Your basic cheap polyester like they use for outdoor decor flags will last a season or two - if left as they arrive.
  
  There are various spray products that provide UV protection, waterproofing, etc. I found this one that sounds pretty good

  There are many more - I used "uv treatment for polyester fabric outdoors" as my search term. I would actually consider using a waterproofing spray and then follow it with this UV protectant. This one has gotten good reviews on HomeTalk

PVC pipes will be best for the trunks, especially for outdoor use. A little online research should turn up outdoor quality fronds, or maybe you can cut up an outdoor fabric that you can treat and add wires. Nothing will last forever outdoors though, weather will always catch up to it.
