Our small yard is completely fenced in. This fence is just boards that my husband installed after digging the post holes, installing posts and hanging whatever the horizontal boards are before putting the vertical ones up. Our yard is dark and this fence prominent so since he is an artist we decided the answer should be a mural. It includes our grandchildren, The Queen Mary (since we have sailed on her) and famous Portland Head Light which is in our town. Paint has held up remarkably well, parts of the mural are 9 years old and parts even older.

    • Absolutely beautiful! My mom sailed on the Queen Mary in 58 or 59 to go visit her Mom in Vienna before she and my dad decided to move to California. I would have to go dig out all the stuff she saved to find details of where it docked. I know she spent some time in France before taking a train to her destination. And did the same route in reverse to return a few months later. For the life of me I can't remember the name of the ship she came to America on when she relocated after the war. Now I must go dig around in all the old stuff! Thanks for the memories. Your husband did an outstanding job. Absolutely love it. Thanks for sharing with us. 🌞

Hi ! You can certainly paint it , doesn't have to be regular fence color...Make it bright or paint a scene on it , paint flowers or vines or a beach or mountain scene . You can hang planters on it for flowers or herbs. You can buy battery operated mini lights that have a stopper , they are meant to be put in bottles , hang different colored wine bottles with the mini lights .

Sometimes a nice paint job is all a fence needs. There are a lot of choices as far as metal decor that can be used outside! :)

I like adding a bit of seasonal decor like a large bunny, plastic eggs, and a basket for Easter, a giant heart for valentines day, changing for different seasons and holidays. Just a small section to catch the eye, not the entire fence.

You could add hooks and add hanging plants to it.
