Lavender & azalea love pine needles so they should grow well under/around the tree. I found some smooth river rock & painted each stone like a store front & made a village. Nice, easy, fun winter painting project. Inexpensive & if you make a mistake just paint over it. I also painted some birdhouses, purchased some @ yard sales & made a small village. Birds are not interested in them but I get a lot of comments on them.

Decorate with outdoor approved lights & ornaments. I have seen this done along the highway and it is awesome.
You could put small LED lights on it, if you have a plug. If there is no plug you could pin things on the tree like butterflies or pretty leaves in the fall, and snow ball decor or anything you like such as miniature decorations made into metallic gift boxes, bows, non breakable balls, anything you like! How wonderful for you!
