You can put up lattices and plant vining plants. I find ornamental grape fines the easiest and hardiest to grow in all climates. You might try twisting flexible copper pipe around your steel columns to change up the look a bit and give a couple more vining plants something to climb. Your columns would effectively be disguised as lush greenery.
