DIY: An Idea for the Weekend... Building a Fence Corner

Some things are just too good to throw in the bulky waste. It was the same with a rustic iron bed that I got from my son because he couldn't use it anymore. As soon as I picked it up, I knew how I could and would use it. The bedposts should be made into a small fence corner. I will use the metal head and foot sections as backrests for new garden benches.

The starting materials – already cut

Building the fence itself is a relatively simple matter. Before I finished the fence pickets (boards) carved from old door panels, I stripped them of the old paint. A hot air gun and a sharp spatula are very suitable for this. After that I sanded the boards and the posts with sandpaper.

The right fence panel is assembled

All fence parts were painted several times with weatherproof paint and then joined together.

I then screwed the fence panels together with black drywall screws. The distance between the individual boards and to the post is half a board width.

Fence assembled and erected.

After assembly on site, I placed larger boulders under the fence panels, which at the same time allow a certain amount of earth to be filled up. I placed smaller stones in a semicircle in front of the fence panels, as can be seen in the picture. The area was then filled with topsoil and potting soil, planted and decorated.

All in all a successful project, which can definitely be realized in one weekend. I would be happy if this idea would find imitators and if I could get brief information about it. So have a nice weekend and maybe “happy work”

Is this anchored to the ground somehow? I can see our strong Kansas winds knocking this over if not anchored properly.

Thank YOU! I really do like this project a lot. I have several areas of my property where a decorative fence like this would make it 'pop' with elegance. I especially like the natural rock border. Guess I'm on my way to Habitat now so see what I can find. Thanks again. Keep up the great work. Be safe.
