We were hosting our granddaughters graduation open house and so it was time to turn the back yard into something fun!

One of the things we either had to clean up or hide was the old chicken run. Thinking cap on....

The chicken run had became a bit junky but since it has electricity in it maybe we could use it for the party by turning it into a fake food truck?!

A cleanup included junk removal, sweeping, removing cobwebs, and spreading diamatacious earth to keep bugs away.

To create the illusion of open food truck windows we removed the chicken wire from the front top half. Then we attached exterior siding pieces to the bottom half in front so it looked like a food truck. I should point out we wanted to make this a free or cheap project so we used whatever we had on hand. For example this bottom half of the food truck is actually wood siding pieces we use in the winter to enclose our catio.

A couple of shelf boards attached at the front open windows make you feel like you could walk up and order something. This was our only purchase in this makeover- 2 pieces of wood!

Luckily we had 2 tires in the garage to better bring the food truck to life. I think one is the spare for the trailer and the other for the mower. We wired them in place so they wouldn't get knocked over.

Next we hung our summertime black corded string lights across the front.

A Bistro table & umbrella off to the side is a nice addition as well.

Inside we hung a white tarp on hooks at the back to give a more enclosed space look.

Because we want to actually have space to set out the food for self service we set up some saw horses on the inside with an old door on top. It's amazing what you find in the garage rafters lol.

Name your food truck and paint a sign for it! We used a scrap picket fence piece here.

Pennant flags are fun... they're leftovers from another party lol.

A menu board of some sort adds to the illusion too! We used an old Chalk board on an easel.

She loved it and now we have a fun to use entertainment space!

Has this inspired you to create a new use for an old space using what you have on hand?

So nice! What did you do to disinfect the inside where the chickens were? Does diamatacious earth do that?

Great idea! But what are you going to do with it after the party? Leave it or change to something else?
