A Changing Table Becomes a Potting Bench

The 2 Seasons
by The 2 Seasons
Even though I don't have children yet, I bought a used diaper changing table when I saw one at a thrift store last year. I knew it would make the perfect bar for our back porch. We entertain a lot outside in the summers, and having an outside bar meant people didn't have to go inside our house to get ice, glasses, etc. to make a beverage.
The bar was so darn cute, and we really enjoyed using it. However, when we bought new porch furniture at the end of last season, there was no longer room for the bar. We took it to the basement for the winter, and then I came up with another use for it.
I painted it with a soft gray, added some hooks, and it then it morphed into the perfect potting bench. It is just the right height, the raised edges keep the dirt, pots, and plants contained while I am working, and it looks cute. To see what else I did to make it efficient, please visit our blog.
The before and after photos pretty much say it all. This changing table has had three lives. It was the best thrift store purchase I have ever made.

I love your use (and reuse) of the changing table. I have the same table and am thinking about adapting it for a bar. Mine seems rickety; I wondered if you stabilized it in any way? Thanks for your advice and keep on reusing!

    pot pants?

I was thinking of finally getting rid of my changing table by giving it to charity, the kids are 10 and 12 years old after all...

But now I've seen this, I am building a shed in the backyard as we speak and need a "plant potting area" behind it. This is indeed the perfect piece of furniture for it!!!! Thank you for the inspiration!

Lovely! Did you put something on it to weatherproof it?
