Enamelware Table Up-cycle

On a recent antiquing jaunt among all the junk in the back of one store I spied this old enamel ware table top. It was missing it's metal legs and the wooden parts holding the top together was almost rotten. But the top was in good shape with little rust and it still had the two pull out leaves attached. It was enamel ware, it was red and white and it was only
wait for it-
$10.00!! I thought the price tag was wrong!
I took all the wood and metal off and was left was the top and the two leaves. I am saving the leaves for another project.

It is a pretty small table so I knew using 2x4's would look too bulky for the table. I also wanted to use up lumber that we already had.
I decided that picnic table style legs would be perfect! I'm sure those things have a proper name but ya'll know what I mean when I say picnic table legs, don't you?
We ended up using some old 2x2's that had been part of a porch railing (yes, I save everything!)

You can't see it in this picture, but we built a new frame and attached it to the original wood that was remaining on the table top. That gave us something to sturdy to attach the legs to.
All that was left to do was paint the legs!

Here is the table with the chairs that I shared earlier (you can see them here: http://www.lessonsfromthelake.com/bottoming/)
Come over to the blog to get more details and I will give you a little history of enamel ware and show you a couple of the pieces that I have. I would love to see you there!

@KayDeOH Thank you Katherine! I think "vision' comes more from experience and trying more than anything else. I bet you have it too!

I have the same table. I want to use the leaves with the table though, so thanks for the idea and I will see what I need to do to keep the leaves attached
