I got a beautiful garden bench for free, and while it was very old and dirty, it was in great sturdy condition so I decided to give it a makeover and bring it back to its formal beauty.

The bench was extremely dirty so I sprayed it with water and then used a product called Deck Clean by Cabots and a brush to scrub in the cleaner and scrub out the dirt.

Before

I left the cleaner to sit on the wood for around 10 minutes and then I used a high pressure cleaner to rinse it off.

It was incredible how much dirt came out of the wood!

Once the bench was clean I left it for a full day to full dry.

After the clean

Next I used a furniture garden oil by Cabots to restain the bench.

I used a trigger pack which I found to be a lot easier and less messy than using a tin.

I sprayed in smaller areas at a time and then went over it with a wood are brush to even put the stain.

A little tip: always clean up or brush in any drips immediately as they can dry really fast.

Once I had covered the whole bench, I then left it to dry for 2 hours.

After 2 hours I have it a second coat, repeating the process.

Applying the 2nd coat

After two coats I was happy with the finished look and my bench seat was looking brand new again!
