I purchased two Adirondack chairs and a foot rest from a thrift store for about $50 several years ago. They had never been painted or stained and were very weather worn and not very sturdy, but I saw potential. When I first got them home, I made them a little more sturdy by adding some more screws and replacing the back brace that was broken on one of the chairs. I also primed and painted them a cheery Sun Yellow from Rustoleum. After a few years, the paint began to flake off, so I gave them an update.
I sanded the flaking paint off the chairs and footstool with a handheld palm sander.
I used wood glue and screws to sturdy up the chairs, using clamps to hold the glue until it dried.
I primed the chairs and footstool and let dry completely prior to painting.
The primer will help the paint adhere better so it will hold up longer in the weather.
I gave each piece 2 coats of the sun yellow, using a brush.
The finished product! All you need is some screws and a coat of paint. The yellow is a bright and cheery addition to my deck!
