Yard sales, gotta love them. :D I found a Styrofoam ball covered in green moss type stuff. The lady said it came from Hobby Lobby, didn't mention how much she paid, but I spent only 50 cents! An idea came to me, so stopped by Home Depot on the way home, and bought a 12" rebar stake. This is a very simple project that I think you'll fall in love with. My cost was only $2, but will have the price reflect the cost if you had to buy everything and make yourself, including ball, moss, glue, paint, rebar, and knife.
Here is the Styrofoam ball. You could easily make this for a few dollars by going to Dollar Tree and purchasing a Styrofoam ball, moss, and some glue.
Here is what the rebar looks like. I took it outside, and stuck part of one end into the ground, then painted it with some indoor/outdoor green paint I had pruchased a while back at Walmart.
This is what it looked like after painting. I had about 3" in the ground. You won't see it when it's in the ground, so I didn't paint it, but of course you could if you'd like.
While the paint was drying, I took a paring knife, but frankly, you can use a butter knife if you'd like, the Styrofoam cuts pretty easily. I went down to the handle of the knife so there would be a lot of rebar in the ball.
Here is the finished project. I didn't drive the rebar into the grown very far, just enough to hold it up while I took a picture. Now you have your very own tree garden decoration made with love by you! NOTE: I did wonder about wrapping the rebar in twine or jute, and think it would look cute that way as well. NOTE2: You could also put in a flowerpot filled with rocks.
Enjoyed the project?

Have a question about this project?
how long did it last outside
I feel like I missed something. Is it just a ball on rebar? Did the after pic not get posted because I don't get it?
Is that the finished product? What did I miss.
