Add Color to Your Garden With Bottles--no Bottle Tree Required

Like the look of bottle trees but don't have a tree? No problem. Use rebar, curtain rods, copper pipe, anything you can stake into the ground that can bear the weight of the bottle. Make sure the the rod can easily slide into bottle mouth.
Tall rods arranged in a group .
Gather rods. Cut to different lengths if desired. Paint if you want them a uniform color. Collect bottles. I prefer blue wine bottles, but any color will work. Avoid colored bottles from craft stores as the paint can scratch easily and the it may fade. If you don't have friends and family willing to empty the wine bottles for you, check at your recycling center. I'm not opposed to taking blue bottles from my neighbors' recycling bins on garbage day either.

Plan your arrangement. Poke rods into ground, place bottle on top end of rod. That's it. Easy peasy.
I used short left over pieces of copper and rebar to make small groupings of bottles. They are strategically placed throughout my landscaping to add a pop of color.
No welding involved. Low maintenance. Year round color. The blue also looks great against the white snow background.
Enjoy this unexpected pop of color in your garden. Your neighbors will too.
Suggested materials:
  • Rebar, copper pipes, curtain rod   (Things I had in my garage, can also buy at hardware store.)
  • Blue wine bottles   (Liquor store-you empty, recycling center-previously emptied. Some stores will save bottles from sam)

I like this idea, too. I have a small raised flower garden and place bottle here and there for the color. However, even with the gravel in the bottom, high winds still blow them over. Now I need to find some rods. They will show better higher up but can stagger heights and not put them too high. Thank you.
