I love the look of the old fences. I had some "walking sticks" my youngest daughter kept bringing home on our hikes, and I needed something to keep dogs out of my front garden, but I didn't want anything too big and bulky..so that's when I got an idea!!

(& the best part is, the only thing I had to buy was the Nails!! So if you already have nails at home then it's just a matter of getting the branches you want!)
First gather your materials
(& yeah I'm one of those that does everything in bare feet lol oops)
The 2 middle sticks, I sawed to roughly the same length....o..at least as close as you can get when you're using a hand saw!
Then I nailed them together right in the middle of the 2 sticks and made an x shape
Here's the x
Next I nailed each of the4 ends of the x to the thicker sticks keeping the x shape
Nailed the bottom aswell
Both top and bottom on one side are nailed to the thicker branch
Then nail the other ends of the x to the other thicker branch and you're good to go :)
I also made a post to hold my hummingbird feeder and hummingbird perch (that I also made thanks to a post I came across on here! icon ) using the left overs from the fence!
The best thing about this is you can make it as tall, or as short, as wide or skinny, as big or small as YOU want it! :)

(**I got it to stand up by burying the longer end of the thicker branch pieces. I left the bottom a bit long as I knew I was going to bury it a bit to keep it standing upright)
(I also dug a hole to stand this in aswell, and packed dirt in around the bottom to keep it standing upright.

I love the natural wood/branch look and hope the birds will also love it:)

Very cool! One question though. How did you keep the limbs from splitting using such large nails? Never works for me. Believe I would drill a pilot hole first.

Does your fence honestly keep the dogs out? =D =D

I go barefoot too! Really I only wear shoes when I go out! Cute easy project!

I love this idea. Large part of my yard is very woodsy so I am going to make several of these.
