Build an Edible Rooftop Garden

If you don't have a great deal of space in your yard for an edible garden... don't overlook some very valuable real estate up top! The award winning landscape architect, Senga Lindsay has written a book on edible landscaping, Edible Landscaping: Urban Food Gardens That Look Great (Harbour Publishing). You are going to love this project from the book.
If you don't have the space for a garden full of fruits and vegetables in your yard, you might consider building a green rooftop edible garden. This one even includes beehives!
In the book, Edible Landscaping, you will find plans on how to build a rooftop garden. You only need about a foot of soil to grow most vegetables, fruits, and herbs on your rooftop.
There are full instructions on the blog, but to give you some insight, make sure to have your roof built structurally. You will also need to construct planters for the soil.
You will then line your planters and add green roof soil. You are now ready to plant your edibles!
Don't you just love this garden on the top of this garage roof?
Just a beautiful bounty built on a roof. I love this edible garden and the possibilities!
Be sure to check out Senga Lindsay's book Edible Landscaping: Urban Food Gardens That Look Great (Harbour Publishing). You can also find all of the details on the blog!
