Hello from Michigan!
I wanted to add more privacy plus a focal point for my privacy fence we installed in 2016. I added pine stained boards in 2016, but this spring, thought up an idea with repurposing tin ceiling tiles-and use them on the fence for a pretty decoration! Here is how I designed my project:
I had fifty pieces of tin ceiling tiles all cut into four square pieces. They were the fleur de lis design, and in silver. The pieces actually sell as 'demo' pieces and why they are not in one solid panel. I purchased a box of fifty samples for $30. (online source)
I used silver number 4 screws. I taped the design first to view how many I needed. Removed the tape, then used two screws in each tin.....
One can not see the screws unless you are truly looking. Leave a millimeter gap from the panel and fence for expansion due to warm weather and cold weather.
I added panels to the other side of the privacy fence with screws. Added Panels on each side of the fountain, and then used liquid nail glue to place three panels on the flower box-applied weight-let them set overnight against the panels (weight used was patio blocks)
On May 20th, I had my grand daughter help me stain 12 pine boards with three different stains, allowed them to dy overnight, and then taught her how to use the drill and screw each board to the fence. I used screws for wood projects; allowed a gap for weather expansion. I used 1 and half inch screws.
The color of stains I used-gunsmoke, walnut and maple with a hint of metallic gold in the maple boards. Dried them overnight and applied them with grand daughter the next day.
Panels with the liquid nail dried and adhered very well on the flower box. Loved this idea using ceiling tin tiles! And then adding stained pine boards, pea gravel and stepping stones, has really turned my fence into a focal point, and, added more privacy! Solar lights in the evening, and new tree's and flowers planted. Few neighbors and friends have already seen this design, and they love the tin tiles!
Thank you for reading and share my idea. Who else has used tin tiles on their fence????
Blessing to all and have a great summer 2018!!!
