When I found these vintage shoe stretchers, I immediately thought they looked like toadstools...so I repurposed them into DIY toadstool herb markers for my garden! Click HERE for thefull DIY tutorial!
Vintage shoe stretchers...I definitely don't need these for the original purpose, but what does that shape look like to you? To me, it looks like a toadstool!
To transform them into herb markers, I removed the smaller end ( Here's how I did it! ) and prepped them for paint.
Once the paint had dried, they needed toadstool spots!! So, I carefully gave them little spots all over. Isn't that the cutest? To protect my paint job and spots, I then gave my shoe stretchers a couple of coats of satin top coat.
To make them reusable season after season, I coated the metal "stem" in chalkboard paint and used a chalk marker to write the name of each herb. And I'll be able to wipe this off should my plants change.
Isn't that the cutest?? Yes, I know- no one actually *needs* to label their herbs but when the herb markers / labels are this cute, why not?? Plus, they add pops of color to my garden in the most darling of ways. Don't forget to head over to the original post for more details and pictures!

I've had a few shoe stretchers laying around in boxes for years, I keep telling myself to throw them out but always in the back of my mind I knew there had to be SOMETHING I could use them for, and this is it :) Thank you for sharing.
