Easy Coffee Can Bird Feeder and Bird House

How to make an upcycled easy coffee can bird feeder and bird house in one. This is a fun project for the kids and adults will like it too. This is an expensive craft that reuses a clean plastic coffee can.

You'll need a clean coffee can, non toxic acrylic paint, jute twine, scissors, and a glue gun.

Paint the entire can white. You might need two coats. Use a non toxic acrylic paint.

Then get creative painting different designs. This was inspired by a fairy tale castle. You and your kids can get creative, but keep in mind that birds are attracted to bright colors.

Then glue the twine on it with hot glue. Turn the lid over and use hot glue to glue it to the top. The lid should be upside down to hold bird seed.

Then add bird seed. I like to use this bird seed with sunflower seeds.

Add some straw, dried grass, dried leaves, or even cattail cotton to the bottom to make a nest for the birds.

Then hang it in a tree in a quiet location. Try to choose a place where the birds naturally gather. They will like to have trees or bushes around so they can hide if a predator is near.

Hmmm. I wonder if you could glue a plate on bottom to have birdseed come out into and fill with seed and cover with lid? Wouldn't be birdhouse though. maybe cover with contact paper? Very cute idea you had! Quite clever and glad paint adhered to plastic. I spent time painting some plastic containers for another project and indoor/outdoor acrylic paint washed off first rainfall!
