How to Create Vintage Crockery Rock
After a beautiful walk on holiday along a pretty cobbled beach, I just fell I love with the variety of ancient smooth sea washed stones . I stumbled across a sort of heart shaped one and decided to try creating unique mosaic on it using vintage crockery.
I begin by drawing a heart shape onto the surface of stone with a pen. This gives a rough outline to work within.
I use wheeled tile nippers to break up some old ceramic saucers and cups and find the little floral designs for my heart fill in. Be sure to wear protective eye goggles.
Next I spread some PVA glue onto the outside edge to create a border.
Then creative decisions on which florals to include in the centre and where to position!
Using more PVA glue I place them finally suitably arranged in the middle and let them dry overnight before grouting.
I use a dark black grout which I mix from white grout and black dye powder and mix with cold water to a consistency of smooth peanut butter !
I mask tape around the design to protect stone from discolouring.
I place a blob of grout onto the stone flowers and work into all the gaps with a bendy card. Then it’s time to wipe off all the excess with damp cloth.
Wiping off excess and cleaning up I use wet wipes.
I’m so thrilled with the final crockery rock result positioned at edge of my
pond!
