I so wanted to have some more colour and my life AND in my garden and then I saw this idea when I went on holiday in Madeira so I thought I'd introduce my own version of exotic colour with a fabulous bird made from plywood!

Cutting out with jigsaw a bird shape

I first decided to use pencil to outline a basic design and wings beak etc. and then I used my jigsaw to cut out the bird shape. Be sure to include a stick at the bottom so you can stick it into a planter or your lawn.

Using pencil to outline

The colour palette I chose was blue, orange, red and accents in black. I sketched out a design using pencil.

Painting with acrylic paint pens

I continued having fun painting the details and colours on to the plywood bird.

I continue adding black highlights to bring it boldly to life.

Adding black highlights

I am so delighted with the result and such a lovely easy idea that’s also great to do with the family and it’s really cheered up the garden!!

It fits perfectly inside a planter! I hope you like it and perhaps make one yourself!
