Well I'm at it again with the melting of albums. I had so many left over from my Melted Album Catchall project. I came across 78s at a garage sale. I haven't had much luck finding 45s so I used a CD. I wanted 3 different sizes to melt. The CDs were the next best thing. I thought I would melt the CD first.

I collected all of my supplies. I then put a CD lable side down on the bottom of a small metal bowl turned upside down.
I turned my heat gun on high and began melting the CD. It seems to melt faster if you start melting the edge of the CD first. I like how the CD looks like it has glitter and crystals on it.

I than melted a 78. I sat it on the same metal bowl. This time I pushed the album down into the bowl with long metal tongs while it melted. I almost gave those tongs away. I'm so glad I kept them.
MELTED 78 album.
I wish I had removed the lableI before melting it. I melted a 33 1/3 record while pushing it into the openings of a metal flower basket.
Melting the 33 1/3 album.
I spray painted the 78 and 33 1/3 albums .
Painted albums.
I let the paint completely dry. I hot glued one of the paper flowers I bought in a package from HobbyLobby in the middle of the CD.
The center of the flower.
I hot glued the CD in the middle of the coral painted (78)album. I then hot glued the coral album in the middle of the aqua (33 1/3)album.
I taped a dowel rod to the back of the album with packing tape.
Attaching the dowel rod.
I painted the dowel rod and some cardboard with light green acrylic paint. Then I cut two leaves from the cardboard and taped them to the dowel rod.
Painting the cardboard.
It is finally finished. It looks like a flower in a Dr. Seuss book. Several of these flowers attached to a young girl's bedroom wall would look cute.

Such a neat idea. It is very artistic. My question is "did you wear a mask to avoid any fumes from the records that the heat might produce ?"

  • Sue Sanders Sue Sanders on Nov 01, 2017

I didn't see your heat gun for melting the records on your list of supplies. I dont know what a heat gun looks like. Is it just heat or is there a flame.

More questions...Did you spay the bowl for easy removal of the record after melting it. Where do I find a "heat gun".? Is it electric heat or a flame.?

Now that's adorable! I read through each step with anticipation as to how it will come together. As always, you didn't disappoint.

Miss Whatsittoyou, I think I’ll put a heat gun on my Christmas list this year. And I really need two sawhorses. I’ll think I’ll paint one teal and call it Mariah, and the other one coral and call it Rowena. 😇🍁
