This summer we've been adding music to our garden. Well technically it's a Fairy Forest but any space that is for enjoyment by those young at heart would enjoy this.

We ordered a set of nesting bowls from Amazon but I'd suggest seeing if grandma has any sitting unused in her cupboards. It could just be 2 or 3 or as many as your heart desires. Mine is seven bowls from a a little half quart up to a large 7 quart size.

If you use 7 bowls like we did you'll need about 14 galvanized 1/2" washers and 14 nuts, and 14 felt pieces for the rod going between each bowl

Drill your center hole in each bowl using a step drill bit. We used a 1/2" threaded rod then marked and drilled the hole to 5/8".

You'll also need a threaded rod 1/2-13x36"

Place a nut, a washer, and a felt pad on the end of the threaded rod in this order so the nut is at the end/top of the rod. Next from the bottom of the rod slide the smallest bowl on and place a felt pad, a washer and a nut again in this order and tighten the nut to hold the bowl in place. Now you have your first bowl (the smallest bowl) secured in place at what will be the top.

You'll need to use your judgement on spacing but reasonably close as seen in the end photo is what you want. As a tip leave enough space to slide a wrench in to tighten the nuts if needed. With that being said next place a nut then a washer, then felt pad, then the next metal bowl, then felt pad, washer, and nut and tighten it to hold it snugly. This is the order you will repeat till you've got each bowl in place.

Dig your hole for the 4x4 post as deep as you like but remember you don't want your bowls on the ground.

Cement the 4x4 post in place and slide your threaded rod into your pre-drilled hole in the 4x4.

A wooden spoon works great to tap your musical bowls! You could hang it nearby with a string or use a cup hook.

We estimate if you have to purchase each of the materials it would cost about $43 . If you already have some things like we did or can check grandmas kitchen and grandpa's garage all the better!

I wonder if rain falling on it would be pleasantly musical.
