We needed to fill a large area outside our shop front, firstly to draw attention to our shop and to make use of a large parapet . We only had a small budget and after seeing something we liked on a DIY site, we set about transforming my boss's old bike, from her teenage years, which had been gathering dust in her garage, a new lease of life. After cleaning the bike, I stripped off the stickers and gave a light sanding to give me a good key. I gave the bike two coats of chalk paint and the tyres and hand grips a coat of black gloss paint. I took people's advice and sprayed on two coats of clear varnish. I tied on two baskets, one to the seat and the other, above the front wheel, using cable ties. I secured some oasis into the baskets and proceeded to arrange some faux hydrangea in them. The end result is fabulous, it is perfect for the space we have, filling up the large area plus adding some needed colour to the outside. It fits the look of our gift shop very well and has given an old bike a new life.
