I really love concrete figurines in my yard, birdbaths, critters, angels, cherubs. . . We found a new to us concrete place about an hours drive away.
I was the hunt for a new birdbath and found exactly what I was looking for and 4 additional pieces too! The one I was excited about the most was a German Shepherd statue! We have had our beloved big boy for 9 years now and now I will have a everlasting one!
Started out as just a plain concrete piece
The real deal - my inspiration
My protector, my sidekick, my big boy!
Just plain ol concrete
Gave him a couple good coats of Behr premium outdoor paint, this sealed it really good and also made a much better surface to add color to.
The finished project Guarding my front door!
I pretty much used a combination of Behr paints from Home Depot and bought their $3. sample cans of the colors I needed and then blended some of my own with those. I also used some acrylics that I had on hand. After letting him sit for 24 hours I applied 2 coats of Seal-Krete Concrete Sealer.
Suggested materials:
  • Concrete Statue   (Old Gin & Keo outdoors)
  • Behr Paint   (Home Depot)
  • Seal Krete - concrete sealer   (Walmart)

what is the stuff you put on it first before you painted it? I have a plain dog statue and never thought to paint it - would love to do this to it

I love it! My friend did two reverse brindle boxers for either side of his stairs, I did two boxers for my stairs, A brindle like one of my champions and a fawn like my last fawn champion! I love this idea! I've done a few for other people too. Love your shepherd!
