I love adding decor to my garden...to create garden rooms. Concrete statues are such a wonderful way to do this...but, I am not loving so much the gray color of concrete. I was inspired by the statues in a movie scene from Pride and Prejudice to transform my concrete statues into something special!
The first step is to thoroughly clean your concrete statues, pots or benches and allow to completely dry. You will also need a few good sunny days to allow this and the paint to cure. TSP works well as does dish soap with a good scrub brush. Rinse thoroughly.
Then paint! The paint I selected is a water resistant masonry paint. There are several options in the market from Drylok, Zinsser, Seal-Krete and basically from most paint brands. Apply several layers and make sure you follow the product's instructions.
Here's another
You can see the difference in how beautiful the statue now looks. It's not as smooth as marble - as are the statues in that inspirational movie scene...but they do stand out more beautifully in the garden now.
This is one of the other statues in my garden - transformed by the paint.

Statuary back. The detail of the statue to me stands out more.
The after. Now back in the garden I love the transformation. I love the beauty the masonry paint created. This will last some time, but with all paint applications time and weather will affect the finish. You will have to reapply and to keep clean.
