Popsicle Stick Herb Markers
Label your herb garden or vegetable garden with these cute herb markers. I used wooden popsicle sticks, so they are inexpensive to make. Use a stamp or write the letters to label your plants.
These would be really cute to include with a potted plant to give as a gift too!
You will need:
- Jumbo wood craft sticks
- White paint
- American typewriter stamps
- Jute twine
- Black ink pad
- Permanent marker
- Heavy duty hole punch
- Paint brush
- Scissors
Paint the sticks with acrylic paint or chalk paint. The paint soaked into the wood, so it didn't cover completely. I liked the rustic look, but you can use two coats if you want.
Punch a hole with a heavy duty hole punch. I put it about 1/4 inch from the end so the wood didn't split.
Cut twine in 8 inch pieces. Thread it through the hole and tie it. Trim if needed.
Then use the stamps to spell out the herb names. They aren't perfect, but this gives it character! Use a permanent marker to fill in any places that didn't stamp correctly.
Then place in a container or in your herb garden to label your plants. I think they turned out cute and rustic! You can also use a permanent marker to write the names.

These are absolutely beautiful! I would use them in a heartbeat. My only concern would be the paint on the popsicle stick. I do mostly edible plants, and organic gardening with no chemicals or pesticides. My raised beds are made from untreated wood, and I only use all organic fertilizer like compost tea and neem oil. It sounds like a small thing, and it’s probably not really a thing, I just worry about the paint getting into the soil and then into the plant. Not a big deal if your plants aren’t edible, but it is something to think about if you will be consuming the plants. I’m probably just being silly, but once someone pointed it out to me, I have found it hard to forget.
I think I will try it will the natural popsicle stick wood! I love the stamp lettering idea as well!
