Of course. Rake the current lawn to remove any debri and expose the bare spots. Sprinkle seeds and cover with light soil. Water thoroughly regularly and new grass should fill in your lawn
Yes! Aerate the lawn, overseed and top. Depending where you live, I would wait till fall. If you are way up north, you still have a chance to get it done now. When in doubt Google! I do mine every fall. A healthy lawn will keep weeds to a minimum. Good luck!
You can buy grass seed which is marketed for filling in bare spots. It is coated with fertilizer and very easy to use. Before you put down the grass seed rake the area to rough up the soil and remove any dead grass from the area. You will hear people refer to this as "thatch." Put down some fresh topsoil to fill in the area so that it's level with the surrounding lawn, then put down your grass seed and cover it with a light layer of topsoil or hay to give the seeds a chance to germinate without being crushed underfoot or eaten by birds. You have to water new grass seed every day in the summer for at least two weeks.
Terri, I agree with the other commenters. We've had to reseed this year because we had a new deck put in and some of the grass had to be dug up. I reseeded the entire yard. Big thing is, water water water! When you think you've watered enough, water some more!
Thank you all for your input. I believe I will go with the thatch then reseed with a topsoil and then straw in the early fall probably around September and hoping then that watering at night will help.
