Can you replant/move perennials in the fall??

I live in Nebraska and am finding I have too many flower beds to take care of. I would like to give away or sell the perennials in the four flower beds when possible to plant them. When the beds are empty, I want to take the edging bricks away and plant grass . I could wait till spring but would rather remake my flower beds now in the fall. These would be mums, some iris, Coral bells, peonies, Sweet William, phlox, Daisies, Pestamons, as well as some flowers that are pretty but forgot their names. We could have our first frost in mid September. Be patient and wait till spring or do it now?
