Dec. 14th Patio/Firepit update
The designer showed up this week with cinder blocks---for us to lay out our design and measurements. I know I may be crazy, but his method of taking the time to display the actual size and shape of the design, based on my family/friends height measurements! Really? He actually took the time to invite Tim and I to sit on the mock up, stretch out our legs and check the direction of the angle where my chairs will be. After some minor tweeks--ready to move forward.
So far, so good...

Woodbridge Environmental Tiptophouse.com on Dec 15, 2011Its great to see that they are thinking ahead by having you visualize the layout. Its a lot of hard work and knowing just where everything is going to sit before you have them cement it into place is the right way of doing things. Must be nice to work in December outside..Helpful Reply

Southern Trillium LLC on Dec 15, 2011Great points Terry. It is very helpful for everyone to visualize and interact with the space and arrangement before the work moves along at full speed. We did the exact same thing on our last project with the patio and firepit. At one of the final meetings with the homeowners we were painting lines on the existing concrete slab to show the overall layout. Then as we began construction, I again drew out marks on the concrete and the curve we were proposing to cut in the concrete. We then set out blocks and were sitting on them to verify spacing and overall placement. It is well worth the extra time.Helpful Reply

Coastal Rock Productions on Dec 15, 2011I gained so much information by setting up the elevations of the features and actually had Tim & Terry come down and sit, prop their feet up and just simply explored our options. I usually find ways to achieve this kind of interaction with my clients especially on hardscapes that involve concrete. We moved and shifted the seating almost 2' from our original location to achieve the desired arch in the bench.Helpful Reply

3po3 on Dec 15, 2011That's very thoughtful. Not sure I would have even thought of asking a contractor for a chance to actually try out designs and sizes before committing to the project layout.Helpful Reply
