How can I grow something?

So for a few years none of my seeds started when I planted them outside. I wanted the huge sunflowers, they did not grow. I planted elephant ears, they died. So this year I planted inside. Sunflowers, nope. 50 Dahlia seeds. Nope. Tried the little herb starting hit with three plants. They started looking like microscopic pre-term plants, then croaked. My butternut squash looked good and made it to the garden. What am I doing wrong? They were all at a North Facing window which had a huge tree outside. I'm just thinks ng not enough light?

Right, there are several things you can do, start the seeds when it's warm enough outside to plant and as soon as they sprout, move them outside to a sunny location but watch closely that they don't dry out. Another thing would be to start them in a south facing window with lots of direct sun and add some grow lights to help them along. You can do it in a green house. Or, direct sow outside, making sure you have at least 8 hours of full sun in the area you're growing. Also check the soil and make sure you're starting them in seed starting mix and you keep them moist, but not too wet.

You could be planting the at the wrong depth. To deep and they won't sprout and to shallow and the birds and insects maybe getting them. Also, I tend to either under water then over water them causing the seeds to rot rather than sprout. If the sprouts on your plants are spindly they aren't getting enough sun light as Little Sprouts says, move them to a brighter window or purchase some lights.

Try starting them in the house in small pots until they start to boot and when they were about 2 to 3 inches then transplant outside
