  • What kind of trees do you have?

    • Not much grows under a pine and around the roots. You have a bunch of great suggestions here, explore all ipoh them and see what appeals to you most. I would go with a floating type deck then you can have lots of potted shade loving plants and a nice place to relax and entertain.

You can't really grow grass under trees like that. Some people mulch all around it. If you don't want to do that you can try Barrenwort (Epimedium) which spreads moderately. Another option is Epimedium x versicolor 'Sulphureum".

Hi Wanda. I'm Cindy. Depending on the size of your small yard, you could benefit from a small floating deck. If you ever move, you could take it with you. I'm recommending it because it could be installed right over the tree roots. If it's not possible, you could still create a small oasis. Accentuate the curves in the yard by putting a boarder with them. A boarder can be made with bricks, pavers, or large rocks. Put a few plants in those curves, whether potted or in the ground. Plants are a great way to create a relaxing retreat. Add a couple pieces of garden art, of course DIY, perhaps a wind chime or a bird house. Put a couple chairs in the yard with a small table between them. Indoor / Outdoor pillows would make a nice addition. Wishing you all the best.
