Start with what's under your feet, grass I hope. Buy 2 bistro tables. Hang some miniature lights, if you have an outlet outside. Next, put some large plants on both sides of the entrance to the back yard. If you have a grill, place that away from the tables. If you have the money, instead of bistro tables, buy a complete set of patio furniture. The umbrella is separate. It would help grately, if you can send a picture. This would give us just how much room you have.

Dwarf conifers and deciduous dwarfs ,say less than 4-5' , and not wide spread . Ever blooming dwarf roses . Perennials that flower all summer when deadheaded , some can be sizeable, annuals , Grasses . Just be careful to ck sizes and not plant too close or fill holes w/ annuals . A little research and can be lots of fun ! Maybe a few rocks that look natural , if easily moved

Ok, well I saw a beautifully done one either here or on pinterest and will try to explain but you have to read close eyes and envision. Or draw it out. OK the area was a rectangle and it was a city lot so tiny. They actually broke it up by changing out the ground cover. Fist was a small deck area for a table that could hold 4 people but safer if using a grill just 2. Then next to that ,oh and it was all ground level, was a white Rock area with some tall plants that were up against a wall. So that was the first third. I suppose you could sit down there but it looked so peaceful left alone. Next they had a huge bird cage, honestly don't know what kind of bird they had not in picture that was off of the deck moving towards back and next to that was a grassy area. Towards the back I'm sorry, but I believe was a sitting area and some potted plants but can't swear to it. Bottom line is that they had small space but used it amazingly by dividing it up to serve their purpose. You may not need a bird cage so make bigger deck for friends and you to sit and talk. Maybe you hate the idea of mowing a tiny spot so add a stone area for grill. Maybe grilling isn't your thing, how about a hot tub? Add some plants, and although so many will hate me,when you have a small space don't add flowers, bees stinging you is not fun,use tall grasses or potted bamboo. But pot the bamboo because it is invasive will take over your entire space. Do you get sun? Maybe a pergola for height and shade? That's inviting. Plus it makes space appear larger because mostly found on larger lots. Anything to trick the eye. Plus you can add lights for night time entertaining what can be more inviting? Without knowing your weather conditions it's hard to offer more plants, but hostage are forgiving and they sell small ones especially online that will give you texture and color and bring nature in if you opt for no grass.

Jael I found it on this site it was posted under landscaping by Cinzanno and it's titled Before and After Small Garden. Also if you go to my pinter estate page which is just Edna I opened a thing just for you with others that I thought you might like you can go directly to your name cause that's what the page created is titled. OK I feel so much better because I hate sending people online as if they couldn't have already done that it seems like the lazy persons way out. So I really hope I did it justice in describing it I did say it had grass but I was wrong ,I apologize for that blunder but other than that you can see the concept of using every inch.
