MY DIY WISH LIST
To build a free standing (as I am a tenant) shade structure in my backyard. Does anyone have advice on using above ground post supports? I will be installing on top of asphalt. I hope to top it off with lattice for climbing morning glories. Sorry no picture , or dimensions included.

Use rebar and pvc fence posts. Drive four rebar into the ground, spacing so the fence post fits tightly over the 4 foot rebar. I filled my 4 posts with sand for stability in high winds. Top with pvc lattice of whatever material you want. Cap posts. Done. When ready to remove, lift and spread out sand on yard. Will not damage grass.

start with a box the size of the area you want covered. Use wood or pvc pipe. I would not use glue. That would be easy to move.

Check yard sales and Craig’s list for gazebos. Check trash day for folks getting rid of their freestanding basketball hoop standard.

Or, if there’s a convenient way to the house, shade sails can only need one post.

Brilliant, I have seen basketball stands on the curb sometimes.........now I know what to use it for, will keep my curb cruising eye open.
