Hello Candy. You can make your own concrete stepping stones. You will need a cake pan and a bag of concrete. Mix the concrete according to the directions on the bag. Pour it into the cake pan and allow to dry. Then turn it over and remove the pan. After you have made several, you can start your walk way. Remove the grass in the area that you want your path to be. Put your stepping stones down and make sure they are level. Once you have the walkway in place, put in a border on both sides of the walkway. Put some sand on top of your stepping stones and work it in between the stones and the borders. The sand will help hold everything in place. Good luck Candy.

    I would buy cute pavers.

They make molds to use with quickcrete , a fast drying concrete that comes in dry form and you mix with water. The molds come in a few different styles , like a group of bricks , or stepping stones...

Depends on what sort of walkway you want. I am planning one for my front yard (for the mail carrier so she doesn't have to trudge through my mud, which seems inhospitable) and I plan on just using a few 2x2 foot pavers from Home Depot or Lowe's with wood chips surrounding them. I looked into pouring my own pavers, but it seems that it is just about as cheap to buy them and a lot less work. I would use something inexpensive to border the area if I were putting in a border....my lawn is so awful I am just putting wood chips over the whole front to even it out and keep the weeds down. It's all shaded by a large and beautiful crimson maple tree, so nothing really grows.

I have access to LOTS of wood chips because I had a tree taken down (it was diseased, or I'd have kept it). If you don't have a lot of free wood chips, call a local tree cutting company and ask if they would be interested in disposing of a load or two of their chips when they next take down or trim trees in your area. They pay to dump them, so they are usually very happy to give them away.
