I secure it the same way you would secure it around a fishhook. After putting the line through the 'paddle', chimes, or top, I lay the line back 'up' along the side of the line {like you're going to make a hangman's noose}, wrap the line around & around the 2 strands of line, then push the end of it through the loop at the top of the wraps and pull the loop tight. I know this sounds a little confusing, but any fisherman or place where they sell fishing line can actually show you how it's done. Mine last for years because I use the 'wire' fishing line so the sun and weather won't affect or break my wind chimes. Good Luck!!
Study up on the technique for affixing a lure to a fishing pole on you tube.
Tie a knot in the end, then carefully use a lighter to singe and gently melt the end. If you've ever done this with a nylon rope to prevent it from fraying, this is the same principle.
You just have to be more careful with fishing line b/c it will easily just melt off.
Stay be holding the line several inches away from the flame. Move it slowly closer until the end just starts to curl. Once it curls and gets a melted knob at the end, stop. You've created a secure end point.
If you're using very fine line, you can also try just touching it to the tip of your hot lighter.
I use fishing line to make jewelry. It's a hobby for me. When I tie off a piece of jewelry, I make a dbl knot, then a burn the end of line with a lighter. The fishing line will melt and create a "ball" on itself. Works every time.
