Remove any weeds or brown grass,apply several inches of top soil,starter fertilizer,grass seed for your are,top with peat's and keep moist until the seed germinates.

When I put weed and feed on my lawn, it usually gets the grass to grown into the spots. If not, I mix soil and seed in an ice cream bucket and fill in the areas by hand. You will have to water, otherwise do in the fall/rainy season.
