Concrete is heavy, plus you want to control the shape and where it goes. Here's an alternative that I thought was neat:

Check your local buy and sell - often people are getting rid of rocks for free!
There are faux stone facings you can purchase by the square foot that you can apply to the concrete. Check your local home improvement store. You need to make a mould for the concrete first.

Keep in mind that fake rocks that are not as heavy as real ones may not be robust enough to withstand the weight of snow during the winter.

How do you build a natural stone wishing well?
Light weight concrete can be used to make fake rocks, or you can get fake rocks that can be attached to your wishing well frame.
You can buy imitation rock coverings made for the outdoors from home improvement stores like Home Depot. Search under "fake rock panels", they come in many sizes and look very real. Some are very reasonable ($40) and are 4 feet long and 3 feet tall that could be cut to fit a well and wrapped around. They go on with nails between the "rocks" so they do not show (or screws). They have river rock styles, flat rocks, and every color you can imagine for a well. I hope this helps Lesli
