I have a 54" wide ramp and porch and need a gate at the top

I am getting a small dog and need to keep her from going down the ramp when I let her out. I have a unused babybed I would like to use to make a gate but the sides are too short and ends are too heavy and would need to be cut off some as there is a large hole at the bottom. I have hinges but no saw. Any ideas on how I can make it work?

Add it to a sheet of lattice

    A baby gate would work.

Buy a small hand saw. Under $10 bucks. Build a frame out of 2X2 boards about 1" shorter than the gate opening. Use the crib sides and screw them to the frame. Predriil the holes. You can use one full side and cut the other to fit. Put the hinges on the gate first. Place the gate in the opening. Use pieces of wood, or anything else to raise the gate and make sure you have a 1/2" gap on both sides. Screw the hinges into railing post. Prime, paint or stain. Install a latch or hook and eye and your done.

William, thanks for the help. You make it sound so simple. I was hoping to use stuff I had here already but guess I will have to go shopping.

Maybe buy a second hand baby stair gate?

I used a gate once to try to keep my maltesse from scratching up the door when I was gone. Came home one day and she had eaten half the gate along with the frame on both sides of the door. LOL

My sister bought small coaster wheels and put on the bottom of her porch gate. It was so big and heavy to try and open and close. It works great.
